Dr. Amar Rewari was recently featured on OncoDaily, where he discussed the complete rebuild of the radiation treatment (RT) delivery codes in the newest Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. In his commentary, Dr. Rewari provided a historical overview of how temporary G-codes came to be and the challenges of having two different billing systems in the specialty for over a decade.

Having helped lead the effort to modernize these codes alongside ASTRO and ACRO over the last two years, Dr. Rewari explained the rationale behind rebuilding the entire delivery family rather than just revaluing outdated codes. He highlighted how the new structure is planning-agnostic and focuses instead on the actual time, workflow, and resources involved in delivering treatment.
